Americans will celebrate Veterans Day on Tuesday 11th November 2014. It's official holiday on Veterans Day in United States. People treated Veterans Day same like Memorial Day but both have a little but authenticate difference.

What is Veterans Day?

Veterans Day is intended to honor and thank all military personnel who served the United States in all wars, particularly living veterans. Veterans are men and women who have served in the military. In fact, more than 48 million Americans have served in times of war and peace since 1776.

Veterans Day is observed on November 11, the anniversary of the signing of the armistice that ended World War I. An armistice is an agreement to end fighting signed by opponents in a war. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. The US President Woodrow Wilson first proclaimed Armistice Day on November 11, 1919. He wanted America to have a day to reflect on the heroism of veterans who died in service, he said:

"To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations."

What is Memorial Day?

Memorial Day is a day for remembering and honoring military personnel who died in the service of our country, especially those who died in battle. The holiday, which is celebrated every year on the last Monday of May, was formerly known as Decoration Day and originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the war. By the 20th century, Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who died while in the military service. It typically marks the start of the summer vacation season, while Labor Day marks its end.

Difference in shortway

Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving.
